Insights: what you can see, and what you can compare

What the Insights view shows, whether it needs switching on, and the limits of what it will compare

What can I see in Insights?

Insights is a read-only view of your risk profile. It plots your risks on the risk matrix and, in Historical mode, shows two versions of that matrix side by side so you can see how the picture has shifted between two dates. Nothing you do in Insights changes the underlying risk data.

What you seeWhat it gives you
The risk matrixYour risks plotted on a colour-coded matrix of likelihood against consequence.
Current or HistoricalA live snapshot of today, or two matrices side by side for the two dates you choose.
The risk listBelow the matrix, each risk with its Type, ID, Inherent, Current and Target scores, Overall Controls Effectiveness, Title, Register and Indicators. Up to 30 per page.
Display and exportList View or Datagrid, plus Export PDF for the current view. Filters narrow both the matrix and the list.

Do I need to switch Insights on?

No. There is no separate setting to enable, and no special administrator access is needed to view it. Open the Risk page for a register and click Insights in the top right.

What Insights can show you does depend on your setup:

  • You need access to at least one Risk Register.
  • Your organisation must have a Risk Matrix configured. Without one there is nothing to plot.
  • For Historical mode, at least one risk must have been rated or updated before the start date you pick, or the two matrices will look identical.
  • The Matrix and Rating Type options you see reflect your own organisation's configuration, so they will not match another organisation's.

Can I compare other fields within Insights?

Not in the way you might mean. Insights compares the same matrix and rating type at two points in time. The comparison axis is the date, not the field. You cannot put two different fields side by side and compare them against each other.

What you can change is what the comparison is made of:

ControlWhat it changes
MatrixWhich matrix is plotted, for example Default or Default Opportunity Matrix.
Rating TypeWhich assessment stage is plotted, such as Inherent, Procedural or Target. Run it twice with different rating types to see how the same risks sit at each stage.
As of date rangeThe two points in time being compared.
FiltersWhich risks are included in the matrix and the list.
If you need to compare fields: The risk list below the matrix already shows the Inherent, Current and Target scores side by side for each risk, and Datagrid view is the easier of the two formats for reading those across. For anything beyond that, a dashboard widget is the right tool rather than Insights.
