What do the colours on survey results mean?
The green, red and grey labels on a survey response, and what each one is telling you
The short answer
The colour is the response's outcome, which is the result recorded against a survey once it has been submitted and scored.
| Colour | Outcome | What it means |
| Green | Pass | The passing criteria were met. |
| Red | Fail | The passing criteria were not met. |
| Grey | No Outcome | No pass or fail requirement was set, or the criteria could not be evaluated. A grey label is not a failure. |
A survey with scoring switched off records no outcome at all, so every response shows grey. That is expected for a survey meant to gather information rather than test against a standard.
If you see other colours
Green, red and grey are the defaults. Administrators can replace them with custom outcomes, each with its own title, colour and icon, for example Needs Improvement, Acceptable and Excellent.
Where custom outcomes are in use, the colour means whatever your organisation has defined it to mean. Check the outcome's name on the label rather than reading the colour on its own.
