Can I mass link controls to causes?

How to link controls to causes in bulk using a CSV import

The short answer

Yes. You can mass link controls to causes using the Import option on the risk module view. By following the import format, you can link causes and controls together in bulk rather than one at a time.

Key point: The import may create controls as new records rather than reusing existing ones. Test the import on a small set of records first, and if duplicate controls are created, use control de-duplication afterwards to merge them.

How to mass link controls to causes

  1. In the risk module view, click the Import button in the top-right corner to open the Import CSV window.
  2. Prepare a CSV file that matches the expected structure (shown below). The columns are Title, Cause Title, and Preventing Control Title.
TitleCause TitlePreventing Control Title
Risk 1Cause 1Control 1.1
  Control 1.2
Risk 2Cause 2Control 2.1
Adding more than one control to a cause: Leave the Title and Cause Title cells blank on the next row and enter the next control, as shown with Control 1.2 above. It will be linked to the cause on the row above.

To get a correctly formatted file, use Download Template in the Import CSV window, or export a CSV (Bowtie) from a list or show view for a directly importable example.
